Centre for Teaching Excellence establishment: island communities impact assessment
This island communities impact assessment (ICIA) considers the establishment of Scotland’s Centre for Teaching Excellence, which supports teachers including those in Gaelic Medium Education, to engage with research and evidence to develop their teaching practice.
Assessment
- No unique or significantly different impacts on island communities have been identified. While teachers in island communities may experience challenges linked to geography and scale, these are addressed through the Centre’s national, flexible model including the research hub based on Isles of Skye, and ensuring there is digital delivery available.
- Gaelic The Centre’s strong focus on GME is expected to have a positive impact for island communities with an increased level of GME provision. Gaelic is embedded as a core element of the Centre’s design, including through dedicated GME hub at Sabhal Mòr Ostaig.
- Does your assessment identify any potential barriers or wider impacts?
- Are there mitigations already in place for these impacts raised?
