Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q4 2025


Renewable energy pipeline

As of the end December 2025, there were 1,201 renewable energy projects with an estimated capacity of 84.8 GW in the planning pipeline in Scotland. Of these:

  • 415 were electricity storage projects with an estimated capacity of 41.8 GW;
  • 726 were renewable electricity generation projects with an estimated capacity of 39.5 GW; and
  • 60 were other renewable energy projects with an estimated capacity of 3.6 GW.

The technology with the most pipeline capacity is battery storage (32.8 GW), followed by onshore wind generation (18.1 GW) and offshore wind generation (17.8 GW; Figure 3).

Notes - ‘Other electricity generation’ includes the following technologies: shoreline wave; small hydro; and tidal stream.

‘Other renewable energy’ includes the following technologies: advanced conversion technologies; anaerobic digestion; biomass (dedicated); EfW incineration; hydrogen; and landfill gas.
