Renewable electricity capacity
Scotland’s capacity for electricity generation from renewable sources has continued to increase. As of the end of 2025, there was 17.9 GW of operational capacity – a 3.2% increase compared to 17.3 GW at the end of 2024 and a 129.8% increase compared to 7.8 GW at the end of 2015 (Figure 2).
The technologies with the largest capacity growth between 2024 and 2025 were fixed offshore wind (0.2 GW increase) and onshore wind (0.2 GW increase).
