Overview of key facts and trends relating to energy in Scotland for Q4 2024


Renewable electricity generation

In 2024, a record 38.4 TWh of renewable electricity was generated in Scotland. This is a 13.2% increase from the 33.9 TWh generated in 2023 and an 8.4% increase on the previous high of 35.5 TWh generated in 2022 (Figure 1).

The majority of renewable electricity generation in Scotland in 2024 came from wind technologies (30.1 TWh) followed by hydro technologies (5.2 TWh; Figure 2).
