Renewable Electricity Capacity
Scotland’s capacity for electricity generation from renewable sources has continued to increase. As of the end of September 2025, Scotland had 17.8 GW of operational renewable capacity – a 4.5% increase compared to 17.0 GW at the end of the third quarter of 2024 (Figure 8).
The technologies with the largest capacity growth between the third quarter of 2024 and the third quarter of 2025 were fixed offshore wind (0.4 GW increase), onshore wind (0.2 GW increase) and solar photovoltaics (0.1 GW).
