Electricity Consumption

 

Total electricity consumption in Scotland in 2024 was 21.7 TWh. This is down 26.6% from the 2005-2007 baseline figure when 29.3 TWh of electricity was consumed (the baseline is the average consumption from 2005-2007; Figure 3).

Electricity consumption in the domestic sector in Scotland was 8.8 TWh in 2024. This is a 29.0% decrease compared to the 2005-2007 baseline when 12.2 TWh of electricity was consumed (Figure 3).

In 2024, 12.9 TWh of electricity was consumed in the non-domestic sector. This is down 24.9% compared to the 2005-2007 baseline when 17.1 TWh of electricity was consumed (Figure 3).

Total electricity consumption in Scotland in 2024 was down 0.5% compared to 2023 when 21.8 TWh of electricity was consumed. The overall decrease in electricity consumption was driven by the non-domestic sector where there was a 1.8% decrease. Electricity consumption in the domestic sector in 2024 increased 1.3% compared to 2023 (Figure 4).
