Education Analytical Services: Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) Statistics

Why we need your data

In order to make the best decisions about how to improve our ELC service, Scottish Government, Education Authorities and other partners such as Education Scotland, General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and teaching unions need accurate, up-to-date data about staff. In particular individual level ELC teacher data is vital for use by Scottish Government in education workforce planning. As a consequence of receiving this information, Scottish Government are equipped to:

  • plan more accurately the number of new staff to be trained each year
  • monitor movements in and out of the profession at a national level
  • better understand the characteristics of the ELC workforce in Scotland

The individual data about staff working in funded ELC collected by the Scottish Government through the census are used only for statistical and research purposes, such as those covered above. Data will not be used for marketing purposes or to identify individuals, nor will it be shared outside the EU.
