Disability equality plan: part 2 - easy read

Easy read part 2 of the Disability Equality Plan covers the second half of of the documents and features topics such as leadership and accountability, monitoring, and the specific cross government actions.

4. Leadership and accountability

Accountability means having a person or group that:

  • is responsible for what we do
  • explains why and how decisions have been made

Reporting on how well work is going

We will be open and honest about how well work is going.

We will report on how work is going by:

  • asking a United Nations committee to check on the work the UK is doing
  • writing a progress report on the Disability Equality Actions in 2026
  • writing the Mainstreaming Equality Report in 2027

We will make new governance to show how we will make the work in the Disability Equality Plan happen.

Governance is the rules about our ways of working and how we make decisions.

We will work with disabled people and DPOs to:

  • check we are doing the work in the plan
  • show how the governance is used

We will work with researchers to have better facts, figures and information.

Actions

9. We will make sure disabled people check we are doing what we said we would do:

  • by starting a Disability Equality Delivery group
  • by starting a group called the Disability Equality Collaborative

This group will be a way for disabled people to have regular talks with government.

  • by having a survey of disabled people in 2026 or early 2027 to get information about how our work is helping
  • by making a progress report that will help us to decide what work we need to do from 2026 to 2031

10. We will make policies that help us to check if the lives of disabled people have got better.
