What we might do
We want all celebrants to know about forced marriages and sham marriages.
We want them to know how to deal with them and stop them from taking place.
We are thinking about having new laws that say all celebrants and organisations need to agree to new rules before they are allowed to lead marriages.
Some of the new rules could be:
1. For an organisation to show that their celebrant is trained in things like forced marriages and sham marriages.
2. For an organisation to show that its marriage ceremonies follow the right rules.
3. For an organisation to show that it has celebrants with experience of leading ceremonies.
The Church of Scotland would not need to follow these new laws for opposite sex marriages.
This is because a special law applies.
