Charging for single - use disposable beverage cups: consultation analysis

Analysis of the responses to the public consultation on the proposed implementation of charging for single-use disposable beverage cups in Scotland.

Footnotes

1 Four additional campaign responses were received from organisations that also submitted a Citizen Space response. These organisations have each been counted once in the total of 1,068.

2 For example, event spaces and festivals where single-use cups are required for safety reasons, settings where it may not be possible to clean a reusable cup, and cross-border transport.

3 The consultation anticipates businesses would record the number of single-use disposable cups they have collected a charge for annually, the level of charge set by the supplier and paid for those cups, the cost of administering the charge, and the net proceeds raised by the charge.

4 Following standard data checks, seven duplicate responses were removed from the data.

5 In total, 175 emails were received from 77 organisations.

6 As Q1 did not include an answer option for no charge, this was added as a category by analysts to reflect the views of those who had coded ‘other amount’ and called for no charge.

7 Includes 1% who did not answer
