Biodiversity Programme Advisory Group - sub group EH and I indicator: recommendations

The Biodiversity Programme Advisory Group (PAG) has provided expert recommendations to inform statutory nature restoration targets under Scotland’s proposed Natural Environment Bill, a key component of the strategic framework for biodiversity in Scotland.

7. Questions for the sub-group to consider in the workshop

The sub-group workshop will address the two questions outlined below. Ahead of the workshop can sub-group members please consider the two questions and the accompanying sub-questions. In the workshop we will be discussing the merits and demerits of each approach using the SWOT analysis and the considerations outlined at the start of section two as the basis for discussion.

1. Which of the conceptual indicator set options suggested by the full PAG is recommended to be taken forward?

In answering this question please consider:

  • Are there any strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats that have not been considered for each option?
  • Which option best reflects the components of ecosystem integrity and health (structure, composition and function)?
  • Are there any additions that could be made to supplement missing components?
  • Are indicators within the option ready for use and if not when will they be ready?
  • Has Scotland committed to use indicators within the option as part of other reporting requirements and if so, is there a process in place for its continued update?

2. For the selected option, which indicators are recommended to be used for setting targets against?

In answering this question please consider:

  • Is the indicator(s) available and ready to be used in Scotland?
  • Are we committed to using the indicator for other purposes?
