This is the 53rd publication of weighted Scotland estimates from the ONS’ BICS. These are experimental statistics, which means that they are still in development. All results are provisional and subject to revision.

Latest main findings for businesses with 10+ employees and a presence in Scotland

  • in Wave 68, the main concerns for businesses for November 2022 were energy prices (32.7%) and inflation of goods and services prices (26.0%)
  • in Wave 68, the most common ways that businesses reported to reduce their energy costs were switching electrical equipment to standby or off when not in use (26.4%) and changing to more energy-efficient electrical equipment (19.5%)
  • around a quarter of businesses (24.9%) reported that wages increased in September 2022, compared to August 2022
  • of businesses currently trading that have exported in the last 12 months, 15.1% reported exporting less in September 2022 compared to September 2021, and 23.9% reported exporting more
  • the exporting and importing challenges that were most commonly reported to have increased in September 2022 compared to August 2022 were changes in transportation costs, change in exchange rates and additional paperwork
