Bairns' Hoose - Scottish Barnahus: vision, principles and approach
Sets out the vision of how Barnahus should be implemented in Scotland, the principles which should underpin the model and our approach to its practical implementation.
Bairns’ Hoose principles
The key principles through which this vision will be achieved are:
- we are child-centred, trauma-informed and respect the wellbeing of the child at all times
- we uphold children’s rights and are grounded in the requirements of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the ‘Getting it right for every child’ approach
- our approach is underpinned by National Bairns’ Hoose Standards which provide a framework for Bairns’ Hoose development
- we aim to improve the experience of justice, child protection, health and recovery for children and families and prevent systems and practices causing further harm
- we demonstrate consistent, strong leadership in upholding children’s rights – including their rights to protection, support, participation and recovery
- we support collaborative work across local partnerships to provide joined-up, consistent and holistic support in child-friendly settings, which enable children to have their voice heard, to access specialist services and be supported to recover from their experiences
