Bairns' Hoose - Scottish Barnahus: vision, principles and approach

Sets out the vision of how Barnahus should be implemented in Scotland, the principles which should underpin the model and our approach to its practical implementation.

Child-centred services

A key element of Bairns’ Hoose is provision of a child-centred services which supports an integrated approach as part of the team supporting the child. Our ambition is to bring together the services a child and their family need, including protection, justice, support, and therapeutic care and recovery into one setting - the Bairns’ Hoose.

Instead of having to go to multiple services in different locations, we aim to provide these supports in one setting, where it is in the child’s best interests. This includes facilities allowing the recording of joint investigative interviews and a remote link to court proceedings where appropriate.

Bairns’ Hoose recognises that the location, type of premises and layout are all important factors in ensuring children can access these services in a safe, welcoming and homely environment.
