Correspondence on lower noise fireworks and other alternatives to reduce harm to animals – December 2024 – September 2025

SAWC sent a letter to the Minister for Victims and Community Safety, highlighting concerns about the impact fireworks have on animal welfare, and discussing lower noise fireworks and other alternatives. Following a response from the Minister, SAWC provided additional views after a meeting with the Animal Welfare Committee (AWC)

Letter on dogs that are seized as suspected prohibited breeds – 20 December 2024

SAWC sent a letter to the Minister for Victims and Community Safety raising welfare concerns around the seizure and prolonged kennelling of suspected prohibited dogs under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
