Standstill Exemptions

Exemptions to 13 day standtill (20 days for pigs): effect on holdings of departure and destination

Pigs continue to trigger a 20 day standstill when they move onto premises. The standstill will also apply to any cattle, sheep or goats on the holding.

Animals moving direct from premises to a slaughterhouse.

Exempt from any 13* day standstill on holding of departure.

Abattoirs are not subject to 13* day standstill.

Animals moving direct from premises to a market for animals intended for immediate slaughter.

Exempt from any 13* day standstill on holding of departure. Any animal returned home from a market for animals intended for immediate slaughter may not be presented at any other market within 13* days but can be sent, within the 13* days, direct to slaughter. Returning animals will trigger a 13* day standstill on holding of origin unless a separation arrangement is in place.

Abattoirs are not subject to 13* day standstill.

Calves under 30 days old from holding of birth moving for fostering.

Exempt from any 13 day standstill on holding of departure (holding of birth).

Does not trigger a 13 day standstill on destination holding if they are to be fostered or they are moving to a specialist calf rearing unit (premises to be notified to SERD local APHA office).

Please note that all calves moving from their holding of birth should be tagged and accompanied by the correct documentation under the Cattle Identification (Scotland)Regulations 2007 (as amended).

Lambs & kids under 7 days old, from holding of birth moving for fostering.

Exempt from any 13 day standstill on holding of departure.

Does not trigger a 13 day standstill as long as holding is not more than 10 km by road from the unit of departure, provided they are identified in accordance with the Sheep and Goats Identification (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended).

Breeding bulls, rams, goats.

Unless held separately in authorised facilities, subject to any 13 day standstill which is in operation on holding of departure.

Does not trigger a 13 day standstill provided it is to be used for breeding on this holding.

Away wintered sheep returning home from wintering.

Exempt from any 13 day standstill on holding of departure.

Will trigger 13 day standstill (unless separation arrangement in place).

Animals between premises on which a right of grazing in common with other proprietors.

Exempt from 13 day standstill between premises.

Exempt from 13 day standstill between premises.

Animals between premises occupied by the same person or business.

Exempt from 13* day standstill between premises within IACS business.

Exempt from 13* day standstill between premises within IACS business.

Exported animals.

Livestock will have to comply with EU residency requirements.

 

Imported animals.

 

Must be detained for 13* days at the first holding moved to following import.

Animals to a show/exhibition.

For first show/exhibition of the season exempt from any 13* day standstill on holding of departure. For second or subsequent show/exhibition within the 13* days, animals must be held in approved separation facilities

Show/exhibition grounds are not subject to 13* day standstill arrangements and the unit of departure does not have a 13* day standstill applied to it when the animals return from the show/exhibition.

Animals (pigs, sheep, goats and cattle) going to an A.I. centre.

Exempt from any 13* day standstill on holding of departure.

Does not trigger a 13* day standstill on their return home.

Animals (pigs, sheep, goats, cattle, or deer) going for veterinary treatment.

Exempt from any 13* day standstill on holding of departure.

Does not trigger a 13 day standstill on their return home (except in the case of pigs) providing the animals (except pigs) have been isolated from all other animals whilst the treatment is carried out. Pigs will trigger a 20 day standstill on their return home.

Animals from any of the Scottish Island areas going to a market

Animals originating from and marketed in any of the Scottish Island areas can go for onward sale to another market on the mainland either direct or subsequently within 13* days of the original market provided they have been held separately in approved separation facilities.
