Schools - addressing racism and racist incidents: guidance

This guidance has been designed to assist schools to develop and implement a consistent and robust approach to addressing racist incidents experienced or displayed by children and young people in school.

1. The Preventing and responding to gender based violence: a whole school framework also recognises intersectionality and provides evidence of the relationship between gender-based violence and racism.

2. As defined by section 1 of the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004.

3. The protected characteristics under the schools’ provisions are: disability, gender reassignment, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, and sexual orientation.

4. As defined by section 150 of the Equality Act 2010.
