Third sector evidence

OSCR collects and holds a huge amount of data on charities and how they operate Scotland. This includes data extracted from the Scottish Charity Register, information from charities accounts and research on public perceptions of the charity sector.

Funding Scotland by the Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations provides access to up to date, high-quality information on funding opportunities to third sector organisations in Scotland.

The Scottish Government is keen to encourage more third sector organisations to get involved in the Scottish Third Sector Tracker. This is a growing research community made up of representatives from third sector organisations from across the whole of Scotland, who share their experiences, views and concerns as the sector faces both new and ongoing challenges. The tracker informs a wide range of partners including the Scottish Government and a range of independent funders.

The Scottish Council for Voluntary Organisations' (SCVO) Interactive Evidence Library for the Third Sector in Scotland provides an archive of research documentation relating to the third sector.

Scotland’s Third Sector Research Forum collates relevant research on the third sector and related topics.

Key findings on formal volunteering from the 2023 Scottish Household Survey were published in November 2024.
