Air quality

We develop domestic policies and initiatives to improve air quality and reduce risks to human health.

Cleaner air for Scotland: the road to a healthier future, published in November 2015, sets out how we and our partner organisations plan to reduce air pollution and fulfil our legal responsibilities as soon as possible. We have since published the Cleaner air for Scotland: annual progress report 2016.

We work in partnership with the other devolved administrations and the UK Government's Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) to ensure objectives set out in the air quality strategy for England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are achieved.

In relation to European and international issues, we take forward the transposition and implementation of European Union and other international obligations.

We fund the Air Quality in Scotland website to provide comprehensive information on all aspects of air quality, including air quality forecasts.
