Lightweight Manufacturing Centre

The Lightweight Manufacturing Centre (LMC) is an £8.9m centre to help companies benefit from lightweight manufacturing technology.

Formally opened by the First Minister in June 2019, the LMC is the first new part of establishing the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS). Together with the existing Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC) it forms part of the NMIS group. Operated by the University of Strathclyde and located in temporary facilities near the NMIS site in Renfrewshire, LMC  will move into the main NMIS facilities following their completion (currently scheduled Autumn 2022).

LMC will develop lighter, more efficient, components for high-value industries, including automotive and aerospace. It also has the potential to benefit other enterprises looking to replace traditional manufacturing methods with the next generation of materials.
