The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has an overall aim "to provide an effective and integrated environmental protection system for Scotland which will both improve the environment and contribute to the Scottish Ministers' goal of sustainable development". SEPA is responsible for a range of activities to ensure emissions are prevented, minimised or rendered harmless and work with local authorities who also have responsibility for addressing a number of local environmental issues.
