The West of Scotland greater silver smelt Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) is one of 43 FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS).This FMP sets out the policies and actions to manage the greater silver smelt stocks at sustainable levels.

Scope

This FMP relates to West of Scotland GSS which consists of the West of Scotland GSS fishery in UK waters of ICES Division 6.a (West Coast of Scotland) and Division 5.b (Faroes Grounds).

The Fisheries Act 2020 requires the relevant authority or authorities to prepare and publish FMPs in accordance with the list and timetable included in the JFS.[2] The relevant authorities for this FMP are the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Scottish Government.[3] The plan has been prepared and published jointly by the relevant authorities for the purposes of the 2020 Act: the Scottish Government as the coordinating authority on behalf of the other relevant authorities[4], Defra and DAERA.
