Welcome accommodation

The estimated number of displaced people from Ukraine in welcome accommodation, as well as the number of welcome accommodation rooms and ship cabins occupied, are on an overall decreasing trend since January. As reported by welcome accommodation teams across Scotland on 9 May, there were around 1,790 welcome accommodation rooms and 625 ship cabins on the M/S Victoria occupied by displaced people from Ukraine in welcome accommodation in Scotland. This is a decrease from around 2,125 welcome accommodation rooms and around 1,010 ship cabins occupied as reported on 28 February 2023, when both ships were operational (figure 1). By 9 May, around 990 guests had disembarked the M/S Victoria since it became operational on 26 July 2022. A timeseries of the number of guests and occupied cabins or rooms in welcome accommodation each week since 28 February 2023, as well as historical data for disembarkation from the M/S Ambition can be found in the accompanying set of tables.

This line graph shows the total number of occupied welcome accommodation rooms, cabins on M/S Victoria and cabins on M/S Ambition over the time period 28 February 2023 to 9 May 2023. Total number of occupied welcome accommodation rooms is shown in a dark blue line, total number of occupied cabins on the M/S Victoria is shown in a blue line and total number of occupied cabins on the M/S Ambition is shown in a light blue line. There has been an overall decreasing trend in the number of welcome accommodation rooms and ship cabins occupied since January. The contract for the M/S Ambition ended on 31 March 2023 and all guests disembarked by the end of the ship’s contract.
