Total numbers of visa applications, issued visas and arrivals by age and sex of applicant

The latest demographics statistics for Scotland, as provided by DLUHC up to 31 December 2022, show that the largest proportion of applications, visas issued and arrivals since 18 March, for those with a Scottish Sponsor (either SG or Individual), were from female applicants. For both males and females, the highest proportion of arrivals were aged between 18 and 64. The proportion of male arrivals with a Scottish sponsor increased from 34% in the earliest period (from 18 March to 30 June), to 44% in the latest period (from 1 October to 31 December 2022).

The statistics are collected for three time periods, from 18 March to 30 June, from 1 July to 30 September, and from 1 October to 31 December 2022. Figure 1 shows that for females, the proportion of arrivals aged 18 to 64 remained similar across the three time periods covered in the publication at between 77% and 78%. However, for males, the proportion of arrivals aged 18 to 64 increased from 55% in the earliest period to 70% in the latest period. In the same time period, the proportion of male arrivals aged under 18 decreased from 43% to 27%.

The age category under 18 are shown in light blue, 18 to 64 are shown in medium blue, 65 and over are shown in dark blue. The highest proportion of male and female arrivals are in the 18 to 64 age category, followed by under 18s, and 65 and over make up the lowest proportion. The same pattern follows all three time periods.
