Scottish Shellfish Farm Production Survey 2025

Statistics on the employment, production and value of shellfish from the Scottish shellfish farming sector.


Employment

The shellfish farming sector employed 103 full-time and 124 part-time and casual staff during 2025. Two casual staff did not disclose their sex, these individuals were included in the total staff numbers but excluded from the sex-based breakdown statistics.

Compared with 2024, the number of part-time and casual female staff increased in 2025, while the number of full-time staff, part time male and casual male staff all decreased. The regional breakdown of employment is given in charts 13 and 14. Overall, total employment in Scottish shellfish farming sector decreased by 6%, from 241 in 2024 to 227 in 2025.
