Scottish Rural Communities Policy Review: stage 2 - Ireland case study
A set of four international case studies have been produced as part of stage 2 of the Scottish Rural Communities Policy Review. This is the Ireland case study. The others are Canada, England and Finland.

3 Pobal, formerly known as Area Development Management, was established in 1992 by the Irish Government in agreement with the European Commission to manage an EU Grant for local development. The organisation administers and manages Government and EU funding and works with communities and local agencies to address disadvantage and support social inclusion and community development. POBAL provide management and support services to 39 programmes, schemes and services and administer programmes on behalf of a number of departments of the Irish Government. In 2024 POBAL distributed close to €1.316 billion in funding.
