This publication outlines the strategic direction for modernising Scottish Government population surveys, supporting a vision of user-centred data collection that delivers the right evidence for decision-making and improved outcomes for people.
3. Enabling Themes
Theme A – Networking and Collaboration
- Embed communities of practice across analytical teams.
- Enhance knowledge-sharing via a centralised SharePoint hub, guidance pages and accessible resources.
- Deepen engagement with UK and international survey bodies to learn from innovation and maintain strategic alignment.
Theme B – Protecting Budgets & Demonstrating Value
- Strengthen communication of survey evidence’s value to policymakers and senior leaders.
- Explore funding options for surveys to ensure they are appropriately resourced while making efficiencies where sensible.
Taken together, these enabling themes strengthen the foundations needed for successful delivery of the strategy. They emphasise the importance of shared capability, cross-government collaboration, efficient use of resources and clear communication of the value that high quality survey evidence brings to policy and public services. Embedding these principles across teams will help ensure Scotland’s survey system remains resilient, trusted and able to meet future evidence needs.
