This sector includes renting and leasing of marine transport equipment, such as commercial boats, without an operator. This excludes renting of pleasure boats, water-transport equipment with an operator and financial leasing. Scottish Annual Business Statistics provides this data. In 2023, renting and leasing of water transport equipment generated £16 million in aGVA. This is 0.01% of the Scottish economy and 0.3% of the marine economy aGVA.
The renting and leasing industry employed 200 people, 0.008% of Scottish employment and 0.3% of marine economy employment.
From 2022 to 2023, the renting and leasing industry aGVA remained largely unchanged. The longer term aGVA trend, from 2014 to 2023, increased by 140%.
From 2014 to 2023, employment was unchanged. Low numbers mean small changes can generate large percentage differences between years. Over the last ten years, employment was between 100 or 200 people. This is at the limit of the accuracy of the Scottish Annual Business Statistics survey figures.
