Proof of concept 25/26 equality and data report
1.2 Key terms
The personal data collected in the application process was collected from the lead applicant only, not the wider project team, and anonymised prior to analysis. Data was collected on five protected characteristics: age, ethnicity, gender, conditions/illnesses/disabilities and socioeconomic background.
The below key terms were provided to applicants to allow them to answer diversity questions in the way that most accurately reflected their opinion.
Ethnicity- Your ethnic group, could be your cultural or family background and should be the option you most closely identify with.
Gender - Gender might reflect a combination of gender identity, expression or experience. Gender refers to your current gender, which may be different to sex recorded at birth and may be different to what is indicated on legal documents.
Condition illness or disability - A ‘substantial or long-term barrier’ is legally defined as ‘12 months or more’. The conditions, illnesses or disabilities do not need to be medically diagnosed.
Socio economic background – This refers to the social standing or class of an individual or group based on responses to questions around income, education, and occupation of the individual and relatives.
