Proposed West Coast of Scotland Whiting Fisheries Management Plan

The West Coast of Scotland whiting FMP is one of 43 UK FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS). It sets out the policies and actions to continue to maintain the relevant stock at sustainable levels providing positive socio-economic benefits to the UK.

Why an FMP for West of Scotland whiting?

West of Scotland whiting are caught as part of a mixed whitefish fishery within UK waters and also outwith UK waters. West of Scotland whiting is a species of generally secondary commercial importance within UK waters, predominantly caught by the UK fishing fleet. In 2022, the UK fleet landed just under £600,000 in value from West of Scotland whiting, with the Scottish fleet responsible for almost 100% of West of Scotland whiting caught by tonnage.
