Proposed North Sea and Eastern Channel Whiting Fisheries Management Plan

The North Sea and Eastern Channel whiting FMP is one of 43 UK FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS). It sets out the policies and actions to continue to maintain the relevant stock at sustainable levels providing positive socio-economic benefits to the UK.


Why an FMP for North Sea and Eastern Channel whiting?

North Sea and Eastern Channel whiting are a whitefish species caught as part of a mixed whitefish fishery within UK waters and also outwith UK waters. North Sea and Eastern Channel whiting are a species of importance within UK waters, with just over half of all North Sea and Eastern Channel whiting caught by the UK fleet. In 2022, over 11,000 tonnes of North Sea and Eastern Channel whiting was landed into the UK, amounting to a value nearing £14.5 million.
