Information is obtained from National Records of Scotland (NRS), who provide statistical information on Scotland's population, households and vital event statistics such as births, deaths and marriages.

Data sources and suitability

Information on population and migration is available from a number of different sources, and also at different geographical levels.

The sub-Scotland section provides details of information available at sub-Scotland geography levels (for example, council area).
