The number of planning applications received by local authorities for quarters 3 and 4 (2024/25) and annually (2024/25). The type of application and decision times for them are also provided.

Local Development Applications
In 2024/25 the number of local development applications (without processing agreements) was 17,425 compared to 21,897 in 2020/21. The percentage decided in two months decreased from 67.8 per cent in 2020/21 to 62.9 per cent in 2024/25.
Major Development Applications
In 2024/25 there were 169 major applications (without processing agreements) decided compared to 171 in in 2020/21. In 2024/25 the average decision time for these applications was 37.4 weeks, taking less time than in 2020/21 (41.3 weeks). However, in 2024/25 the number of major applications without processing agreements (169) increased from 120 in the previous year.
Approval Rates
The overall rate of approval for applications was 92.2% in 2024/25. The approval rate has been around 92% to 94% over the past five years.
