The North Sea greater silver smelt Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) is one of 43 FMPs set out in the Joint Fisheries Statement (JFS).This FMP sets out the policies and actions to manage the greater silver smelt stocks in the North Sea at sustainable levels.

Scope

This FMP relates to fisheries for GSS (Argentina silus, also known as greater Argentine) in UK waters of ICES subarea 4 and division 2.a (North Sea).

The Fisheries Act 2020 requires the relevant authority or authorities to prepare and publish FMPs in accordance with the list and timetable included in the JFS.[2] The relevant authorities for this FMP are the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) and the Scottish Government.[3] The plan has been prepared and published jointly by the relevant authorities for the purposes of the Fisheries Act 2020: by the Scottish Government, as the coordinating authority, on behalf of the other relevant authorities, Defra and DAERA.[4]
