GDP Monthly Estimate: January 2026

In January the sector with the largest positive contribution to three-month GDP growth was Professional, Scientific and Technical Services, which contributed around 0.1 percentage points towards overall growth. The largest negative contributor was Construction, which contributed around -0.1 percentage points towards three-month GDP growth.
In the three months to January 2026, compared to the three months to October 2025, output in the Production sector is estimated to have grown by 0.1%, while the services sector is estimated to have grown by 0.2%. Construction sector output contracted by 2.0% in the three months to January.
As reported by the Office for National Statistics, there were some common themes that were anecdotally reported, across the UK, to have played a part in performance across different industries in January 2026, as part of the monthly business surveys.
A range of industries across manufacturing, retail and wholesale reported the high price of precious metals affecting turnover in January 2026. These comments were both positive, in terms of increasing the value of sales, and negative, in terms of buyers delaying making purchases.
