GDP Monthly Estimate: April 2025

Gross Domestic Product (GDP) statistics measure changes in the output of the economy. This is an Official Statistics in Development publication for Scotland.


Scotland’s onshore GDP is estimated to have contracted by 0.2% in April. This follows contraction of 0.4% in March (revised down from contraction of 0.2%).

In the three months to April, GDP is estimated to have contracted by 0.2% compared to the previous three month period. This follows GDP growth of 0.4% in Quarter 1 2025.

The industries with the largest negative contribution to the overall contraction of 0.2% in April were Manufacturing and Accommodation & Food Services, which contributed -0.2 percentage points. These were offset by growth in Water & Waste, and Administrative and Support Services, each of which contributed 0.1 percentage points.
