Independence: what you need to know
Information about Scotland's future.
What independence would mean for you
This Scottish Government’s proposals for independence are designed to bring real improvements to the lives of people in Scotland.
These improvements could include:
-
A rise in living standards, thanks to a new model for the Scottish economy, Scottish control over its own energy and re-joining the European Union. Analysis shows that if Scotland’s economic performance matched comparable countries, households could be over £10,000 better off each year. This doesn’t mean independence would automatically make Scottish families richer, but it shows the potential if Scotland could make its own economic decisions.
-
Re-gaining freedom of movement in Europe, which would mean having the right to live, work, study and travel across the EU, and the right to take part in programmes which mean you could study in the EU
-
More powers to end child poverty and boost our NHS and wider health and social care systems
-
Strengthening your community through an immigration policy that’s designed with Scotland’s needs and geography in mind
-
Putting Scotland’s future in the hands of the people of Scotland, with the government being voted for by the people of Scotland
