Improving the Lives of Scotland’s Gypsy/Travellers 2: action plan 2024-2026

Second joint action plan by the Scottish Government and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA).

Footnotes

1 The 2022 Census Gypsy/Traveller numbers are not fully comparable with the 2011 Census numbers. This is because the ethnic categories Roma and Showman/Showwoman were introduced into the census survey in 2022, and in 2011 some people in these categories may have ticked the Gypsy/Traveller category.

2 The census aims to count usual residents, those that have lived or intend to live in Scotland for 6 months or more, and populations who move around can be more difficult to count in the census. Considerable effort was made to enumerate Scotland’s Gypsy/Traveller populations in the census and National Records of Scotland worked closely with these communities. Improvements were made to the question to include tick boxes for Roma and Showmen/Showwomen alongside the Gypsy/Traveller tick box.
