Improving relationships and behaviour in schools: ensuring safe and consistent environments for all. Joint action plan 2024 - 2027: 2nd Annual Progress Report
Second annual progress report on the Relationships and Behaviour in Schools Action Plan 2024-27
Theme 7: Tracking impact and progress
Action 19: Continue to update and maintain evidence base on relationships and behaviour in schools.
The sixth wave of the Behaviour in Scottish Schools Research has been commissioned. Fieldwork began in early 2026 with the final report due in early 2027.
A number of updates have been made to the staff survey, to reflect the recommendations of the 2023 BISSR report. This includes updating the language of the questionnaire, gathering additional demographic information from staff, and introducing new questions to capture emerging issues from the 2023 survey. The qualitative research element is also being expanded to include involvement of children and young people, parents and carers. The research is being overseen by a Research Advisory Group of members of SAGRABIS.
As highlighted at actions 6 and 7 above, HMIe is currently considering how evidence on relationships and behaviour and attendance, gathered as part of the inspection process, can be synthesised and shared more widely to support practice across Scotland.
