Reporting On Deaths Of Care Leavers
186. Section 29(10) of the 1995 Act (as inserted by section 66(2) of the 2014 Act) places a duty on local authorities to notify the Scottish Ministers and the Care Inspectorate of the death of a care leaver being provided with advice, guidance or assistance by them.
187. This legislative change builds on existing duties to report the death of a looked after child and means that the death of a young person who is in receipt of Aftercare services should be notified to the Scottish Ministers and the Care Inspectorate. Notifications to Scottish Ministers should be made by email to: email@example.com. Please refer to the Care Inspectorate website for information on notifications, record keeping and contact details.
