Green Freeports Programme: child rights and wellbeing impact assessment
An assessment of the anticipated impact of the Green Freeports programme on the human rights and wellbeing of children.
Conclusion
7. As a result of the evidence gathered and analysed against all UNCRC requirements, what is the potential overall impact of this proposal on children’s rights?
The Green Freeports programme itself, at this stage, does not impact on children’s rights and wellbeing.
There is the potential for job creation, new skills opportunities and regeneration activities associated with the Green Freeport to have positive impacts for those who live, study and work in the Green Freeport areas. This may result in a positive, indirect impact on children and young people as a result of opportunities secured by parents and caregivers that impact on household incomes, as well as those secured by young people as they progress through education and/or enter the workforce.
8. If you have identified a positive impact on children’s rights, please describe below how the proposal will protect, respect, and fulfil children’s rights in Scotland.
As described above, there may be indirect positive impacts on children and young people as a result of the creation of jobs and skills opportunities that could impact on household incomes – whether those opportunities are secured by parents and caregivers, or by young people as they progress through the education system and/or enter the workforce in future.
9. If a negative impact has been identified please describe it below. Is there a risk this could potentially amount to an incompatibility?
No negative impacts have been identified.
