Effective Cancer Management: framework

The framework for effective Cancer management is a guidance tool for Cancer Teams across NHS Scotland to improve and sustain performance of the National Cancer Standards. This version of the Framework now incorporates 10 elements to consider when planning and delivering cancer services.

3. Patient Voice and User Experience

User feedback should be regarded as a gift and be considered as important as performance, safety and outcome data. Cancer Managers should ensure that all staff have the authority and resources, together with the confidence and skill, to collect, collate and act on both formal and informal user feedback.

3.1 The patient should be fully informed at all stages of their cancer journey including diagnostic appointments and delays, test results, MDT discussions outcomes, treatment options and treatment waiting times.

3.2 Opportunities to collect user feedback should be available and promoted throughout the patient’s cancer journey.

3.3 Care Opinion should be promoted as a platform for user feedback (Care Opinion)

3.4 User feedback should be regularly reviewed and shared with all cancer team members.

3.5 Users should be informed of the actions and improvements made following their feedback.

3.6 Improvement plans should be enacted where issues have been identified.
