Ministerial car usage costs: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.

Information requested

Please provide the total cost of Scottish Government provided ministerial car usage for the years 2022-23 and 2023-24, broken down by:

  • Individual Minister
  • Total mileage recorded
  • Fuel and maintenance costs separately

Response

While our aim to provide as much information as possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not hold some of the information you have requested.

The Government Car Service (GCS) operates its vehicles and drivers as a shared resource. As a result, they frequently cover multiple customers throughout the day, and individual costs or mileages are not recorded.

Additionally, we do not hold total mileage data for the GCS fleet for the financial year 2022/23, as this information was routinely destroyed prior to the date of your request.

This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

However, we are able to provide the total cost of operating the service, broken down by expenditure category, along with the total mileage currently available. This information is provided below.
