Data Loch funding and support: FOI release

Would be happy to restrict my request to cover only formal funding bid documentation and milestone reporting, if this helps to reduce the amount of material that falls within the request.

We appreciate the time taken to reduce the scope of your original request. This has allowed us to conduct a thorough and specific search of our systems with the aim of providing information relevant to your query.

For context, Data Loch is funded by the University of Edinburgh as part of the Data Driven Innovation programme, which in turn, received funding from the innovation strand of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland City Region Deal. Scottish Government committed £10 million to this particular aspect of the City Region Deal.

In March 2021, Scottish Funding Council also provided support of £105,000 to Data Loch for 5 Covid-19 related University research projects.

On this occasion, we can confirm that our searches have identified a number of documents that are within the scope of your request. I can also confirm that some of the information you have requested is published online. Please see the attached Annex for requested information. You will note that certain information has been redacted and I can confirm that this is because the information does not relate to your request and is therefore out of scope.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested as an exemption under section 25(1) of FOISA applies. The information the Scottish Government holds that falls within the scope of your request is already reasonably accessible to you and in the public domain. This is an absolute exemption and as such the Scottish Government does not have to apply the public interest test in this case.
