Communications regarding Chromebook purchases for local authorities: FOI release

Information request and response under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Information requested

The Scottish Government has purchased Chromebooks which have then been offered to local authorities for distribution to pupils in need. I would like to know how the government arrived at the decision to purchase Chromebooks rather than an alternative. I would therefore like the government to provide all materials regarding this choice.

This should include (but may not be limited to)

1. Any reports, analysis or advice laying out different options with regards to the purchase of thes devices (for example, this might include a briefing prepared for ministers or senior civil servants highlighting issues like costs, functions etc.)

2. Any communication between John Swinney (and his staff/special advisers) and officials regarding the purchase of these devices.

The time frame for this request is Jan 1 2020 to present.

Response

I attach a copy of all of the information you requested in the attached annex.

The only information that has been redacted is personal information under Section 38(1)(b) and, for Annex 2, the rest of the submission to Mr Swinney is not included as it is not in scope of the request.
