Complaints regarding Midlothian and Edinburgh primary schools: FOI release

Information requested

complaints about Scottish primary schools and it's staff (inc. head teachers, assistant head teachers, teachers and teaching assistants). What is their pay? Any bonuses? Any misconduct?
In your clarification email you asked for any complaints regarding Loanhead Primary School, Midlothian and also any details of complaints in the previous categories received for primary schools in Midlothian and Edinburgh.

Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Education Scotland does not have the information you have requested for any complaints received for Loanhead Primary School, Midlothian, therefore this is exempt under section 17(1) of FOISA.
I would advise that you contact Midlothian Council. The education authority has responsibility for ensuring that any concerns about schools in its area are dealt with appropriately. The following link takes you to the Freedom of Information section on their website:

Please find attached, at Annex A, details of Stage 1 and Stage 2 complaints that Education Scotland have actioned from 2011 until 4 March 2020.
We have also provided you with a list of complaints that are not within Education Scotland’s remit and safeguarding concerns for the same time period within those local authority areas.  However, please note that Education Scotland does not have the remit to investigate complaints or concerns raised about individual schools/teachers. Please see our questions and answers page for advice and assistance on these matters.

If a Safeguarding concern is reported to us we will pass on that concern to the relevant local authority or independent school and ask them to indicate that relevant staff are aware of the concern. Education Scotland does not investigate concerns. We do maintain a confidential record of all concerns received.
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance Education Scotland does not have the information you have requested on teacher’s pay, bonuses and misconduct complaints, therefore this is exempt under section 17(1) of FOISA.
