Executive summary

The purpose of the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Cluster (SAIC) is to establish a voluntary, sector-focused innovation and funding centre to strengthen Scotland’s aquaculture sector through research, collaboration, knowledge exchange and targeted funding support.

Objectives:

  • Increase sector innovation and productivity
  • Strengthen business resilience, particularly for micro and small enterprises
  • Improve access to research and collaboration opportunities for rural and island-based businesses
  • Encourage sustainability and long-term competitiveness

The type of the proposal is a decision of a strategic nature.

SAIC’s primary focus is on strengthening the sector rather than directly affecting individuals or households. No direct impact is expected on individuals based on protected characteristics.
