Energy consents: how to apply

This document outlines the application for consent process.

Following the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and formulation of an EIA report, the developer can lodge a formal application. There is no standard application form but the submission should include:

  • a letter requesting consent and deemed planning permission
  • a map showing the land to which the application relates
  • if required, an EIA report
  • the application fee

An application must be advertised for two successive weeks in one or more local newspapers, in the Edinburgh Gazette for two successive weeks and in one or more national newspapers for one week.

For further guidance, developers should refer to the full application procedure and publicity requirements.

Supplementary information

In order to ensure the completeness and quality of the EIA report, Scottish Ministers may request that a developer provides supplementary information. The consultation process begins again when that information is received.
