Detoxification and other support available in residential rehabilitation settings

This report presents findings from a survey of residential rehabilitation providers in Scotland. It seeks to establish the current provision of detoxification across residential rehabilitation facilities and explores how these services operate and are governed.

Footnotes

1 The percentages below have a base of 13 facilities unless otherwise stated, as one provider was identified as offering detoxification during analysis but was not asked most of the follow-up questions.

2 Percentages in this paragraph have a base of 14 facilities.

3 Caution should be applied when interpreting these results as mental health and cognitive assessments were aggregated in the phrasing of the questions, despite potentially requiring quite different approaches.

4 The Future of Residential Rehabilitation Working Group was established in June 2020 to advise Scottish Ministers on a programme of work to ensure the provision of drug and alcohol residential rehabilitation services across Scotland and to ensure that everyone who requires has access to it.

5 Further detail on this definition is available in the Pathways into, through and out of Residential Rehabilitation in Scotland report.

6 The response option combined street and prescription benzodiazepines, so these cannot be disaggregated here, although it should be noted that whether street or prescription benzodiazepines are involved would require different approaches when it comes to detoxification.

7 Respondents could select more than one option in response to this question, so percentages add up to more than 100%.

8 Alcohol and Drug Partnerships (ADPs) are multi-disciplinary, non-statutory partnerships bringing together statutory and third sector organisations, the Police and the Scottish Prison Service to tackle alcohol and drug issues locally.

9 All facilities were presented with this question, as such the base for the percentages in this paragraph is 14. Respondents could select more than one option in response, so percentages add up to more than 100%.

10 Caution should be applied when interpreting these results as mental health and cognitive assessments were aggregated in the phrasing of the questions, despite potentially requiring quite different approaches.
