Data Access Panel: request form and guidance
Form and guidance for requesting Scottish Government and National Records of Scotland Census data.
Application process
We review applications in different ways depending on the type of data you're requesting. Straightforward requests are reviewed quickly by our analytical division heads. More complex requests go to a specialist data access panel.
Reviewed by analytical division heads (SG and NRS)
Your application will be reviewed by analytical division heads if your request:
- does not involve linking data to other datasets, and
- is considered low risk
Reviewed by the data access panel
Your application will be reviewed by the data access panel if your request:
- involves linking data to other datasets
- includes unpublished NRS Census data
- is part of an ongoing research programme
- is considered medium or high risk by the analytical division heads, even if no data linking is involved
You can read the full details of the panel's remit and process in the panel's Terms of Reference.
Once you submit your application, we'll review it and keep you updated on progress. You can see an overview of the steps involved in our process flow chart.
